Bailey Hundo

Racing on one hundred miles of trails and dirt roads through the mountains of Colorado. On a single speed. For real. You either have to be a serious endurance mountain biker or crazy to do this race. Ben? Perhaps a little of both.

And there you have it. One hundred miles in nine hours and forty minutes. Did I mention the single speed? Yeah. B., you had one hell of a day. Congrats to you!

Denver Botanic Gardens

My mom, Linda and I visited the Denver Botanic Gardens today. Surprisingly, this was my first trip to the Gardens. I've driven passed the place umpteen times but never took the time to actually plan a day to tour the vast space plunked down in the middle of the city. I guess that's exactly the reason why I haven't visited: It's in the city and all of my adventures skirt the outer limits of Denver.

The trip was well-worth it. For a small fee we were transported from the Cheesemann Park area I know so well to a small stretch of heaven. My senses were saturated by the vibrant colors of the flowers and plants, the sweet, romantic aromas, the feel of the soft petals against my skin, and the buzzing of insects busy at work in the gardens. We wandered, we ooh-ed and ah-ed, Mom and Linda called out flower names remembered from their days working at a local Green Bay greenhouse, we snapped a thousand pictures. We left the gardens drunk on nature's beauty. I plan to visit this space again and again.

"Let's hold hands." (If you know my mom, you might guess that this was her suggestion.)
