Made It

After a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad stomach bug swept through our house yesterday, we all recovered enough to make the long journey to Wisconsin to celebrate Auntie Meagan's baby-to-be. Twelve hours doorstep to doorstep, we are finally cozy in bed at Grandma and Grandpa's house, and ready for some good sleep.

Emma, Four Months Old

Our sweet Emma Noelle is four months old.

She's not quite as much of a talker as her brother was as a baby, but boy, when she does talk, she can really makes noise. Grandpa said she's getting her lungs ready for cheerleading. I said she's getting them ready for her speeches as president.

Emma and her daddy have a game of blowing raspberries at one another. It's a game she really only plays with Ben, and I love that she's connecting with him on her own this way.

Emma has a pretty solid sleep routine now, taking two hour naps during the day, and going down to sleep between 7 and 8 pm. She's starting to sleep for a long stretch at the beginning of the night, waking to nurse around 1 am, and then nurses more frequently in the morning hours. She's up for the day by 6-7 am. She's still in bed with us, but soon I think we'll start to transition her to the crib in the beginning of the night, so I can have some time to myself in the evening.

Isaac doesn't nap consistently anymore, so I've been finding it difficult to fit in downtime for myself lately. Between Isaac's nap refusal and Emma being awake for longer periods of time, my days are certainly full, and busier than the first few months of Emma's life. I'm trying to adjust and find the right balance of devoting my time and attention to both Isaac and Emma, to cooking, cleaning, and errands, and finally, taking time for myself. I'm trying, too, to be easy on myself, and accept that I'm not perfect, and something must give. Every day. Mothering is hard work--and an intense emotional ride--but I really mean it when I say I am so happy, thankful and fulfilled by being home with my kids.

Emma is a content baby. She's now happy to play beside her brother for good stretches of time, and enjoys just hanging out in my arms, watching as Isaac and I go about our day. She has a great temperament. I feel so lucky to call this curly-haired cutie mine.

Grandma and Her Grand-Babies

Take Your Child to Work Day

This morning Isaac accompanied Ben to FullContact for Take Your Child to Work day.

Ben's office is in downtown Denver, and he commutes by bus, so Isaac's special day (and perhaps his favorite part?) began with a bus ride from Louisville to Denver.

Once they reached Union Station, where the bus drops Ben off every day, the boys headed to Snooze for a pre-work breakfast. Yum!

Finally in the office, Isaac and Ben worked from a conference room with the other parents and kids (in an office filled with twenty-somethings, and even one teenager, there aren't many children). Isaac got a lot of iPad time in, and made frequent trips to the kitchen where he promptly found the "Sassy Drawer," which is filled with candy. He also took part in an epic Nerf gun battle with a couple of Ben's coworkers--that's right, there are Nerf guns in the office, and Isaac thought that was the coolest.

Isaac "worked" with Ben until 11:30 when my mom and I met the group for lunch and an ice cream social, because clearly there wasn't enough food involved already.

Isaac has never been very clear about where Ben works--for a while he thought Ben worked on the bus!--so it was fun for Isaac to check out his daddy's office and get a sense of where Ben goes all those hours during the week.
