The Pool, Again!

A Picnic and Pool Date

These two were so very excited about our picnic in the park and swim at Memory Square Pool today. In the morning, I brought them to the store to buy food for our picnic, and on the way, asked them both what they wanted to eat. "Turkey sandwiches!" "Oranges!" "Strawberries!" "Juice boxes!" I have to say, I was pretty impressed by their choices. I was expecting something more along the lines of chocolate, ice cream and candy.

After lunch, we played for a while at the park and then headed to the toddler pool. We had the pool all to ourselves--we lucked out--and had a lot of fun. I got a major arm workout, trying to keep myself submerged in two feet of water while chasing after a boy who enjoys diving under water belly first, but can't always right himself (read: his head is too heavy) when he needs to breathe. Poor, large-headed boy.

Memorial Day

Isaac's Uncle Matt, Aunt Liz and Cousin Amira are here for the week, and Isaac couldn't be happier. He loves the Vanbergs. Loves them. All day he runs around playing monsters or bad guys with Uncle Matt (and you know this delights Isaac, since we never usually let him "shoot" us), cuddles into Auntie Liz's lap for hugs, or makes up silly, imaginary stories to act out with Amira. And the feeling is mutual. They all have so much love, and show so much affection for our boy. Amira will spend most of the week sleeping on the floor in Isaac's room, not to be separated from him for even a night's sleep. It's absolutely heart-melting (and simultaneously heart-wrenching, knowing they live ten hours away) to see them together. The Vanbergs might just be Isaac's favorite family ever. Ben and I are chopped liver, by comparison.

Today we all bummed around Louisville together. First, we had a little fun at Pirate's Park:

Then lunch at La Rev in downtown Louisville, where they have hula hoops to entertain kids and adults alike!

And finally, a stop at Sweet Cow for ice cream. The ice cream isn't pictured here, but the bouncy cows that Uncle Matt bought there for Isaac and Amira sure are. Thanks, Uncle Matt!

Also, you know what makes the best toy? A cardboard box.
